The first of an annual festival, The Friendship Djerrip* Festival is an exciting event which aims to foster friendships and partnerships between non-Indigenous and Indigenous people, while exploring our respective and shared histories, culture and stories. (* Djerrip means 'friend' in the language of Woiwrurung. Woiwrurung is one of the four language groups that make up the Kulin Nation of Victoria.)

THE FESTIVAL INCLUDES:
2-7PM    TALKS/ WORKSHOP including: Aunty Nellie talking about the history of Indigenous Rights movement / current campaigns / Ngapartji Ngapartji / Barmah-Millewah / The Fly Newspaper
3-7PM    KIDS & FAMILY CONCERT including : WEST PAPUAN CULTURAL GROUP, BREAKOUT HIP HOP DANCE CREW (from Yarra Youth Service), Carl Pannuzzo on church organ, TIM TIM, BIRRI-ON LAKIDJEKA DANCERS, Koori Face Painting & KUTCHA EDWARDS
7-8PM    WELCOME CEREMONY followed by BRIDGE THE GAP CHOIR then ACES ELDERS CHOIR 
8-9PM   'EARTH HOUR' : storytelling in the dark curated by IAN PIDD
8:30PM  ART AUCTION: including works from Maya Centre artists and auctioned by Andrew Gaynor
9-12AM  CONCERT with TJIMBA & THE YUNG WARRIORS, THE BROLGA BOYS & JOSH OWEN

INFORMATION STALLS WILL BE SET UP ALL AFTERNOON. 
Dinner will be served from 6pm onwards


Each year, all proceeds from the festival will be donated to a local Indigenous project/group.  
This year the recipient of the donation is the Maya Healing Centre.
THE MAYA HEALING CENTRE, THORNBURY, is an Indigenous place of healing founded in 2004 by a small group of Aboriginals and friends who saw the need for a Healing Centre in the Northern Suburbs. Maya is the first of its kind in Australia and the only one in metropolitan Melbourne. http://www.maya.org.au

In respect of the Maya Healing Centre philosphy and practice of healthy living we ask people to respect our request to make this a drug and alcohol free event.
