and Chilean Popular & Indigenous Solidarity Network "La segunda conquista"
(The Second Conquest) is a 71 min, self funded,
independent documentary by Denali DeGraf & Joao Dujon Pereira (an
Argentinian/Australian collaboration). As land values in Patagonia,
Argentina have skyrocketed in recent years, large
corporations and wealthy individuals (from within Argentina as well as from
overseas, such as Ted Turner, Sylvester Stallone, the Benetton family, or
Joe "Hard Rock Cafe" Lewis) have been appropriating enormous tracts of land
at the expense of those who have lived there for decades or centuries. La
segunda conquista is a portrait of indigenous and non-indigenous families
and communities in Patagonia, Argentina. Documenting their ongoing campaign
to save their homes, defend their human rights, and protect the environment.
"La segunda conquista" exposes the web of corruption and greed as well as
communicating the less documented stories of these courageous and resilient
people. Proceeds from showcasing and distributing will assist in their
ongoing legal
battles and basic necessities of reclaiming the land that has fallen prey to
pillagers of all kinds, and returning to live on it. Filmed about an issue
in Patagonia, Argentina, this topic actually resonates
worldwide. It has become increasingly inaccessible and expensive to have
somewhere to live and work the land, constantly increasing dependence upon
an unsustainable global economic system. Spanish (English subtitled)
