Second Latin American & Asia Pacific Solidarity Gathering
21-22 October, Melbourne-Australia
Building bridges, Organising globally
Melbourne Trades Hall,

A brief introduction of the international guests attending the gathering:
Shamima Ali - Director of Fiji's Women's Crisis Centre and part of the secretariat for the Pacific Network Against Violence Against Women. Shamima is a long-time activist against sexual and domestic violence in the Pacific.
Gissel Gonzales - A co-ordinator of 'the coalition in defence of water and life' in Bolivia, which not only has helped topple governments but recently was instrumental in the election of Evo Morales, the first indigenous president of Bolivia.
Maria de Lourdes Vicente da Silva - An organiser with the Landless Workers Movement (MST) in Brazil, which has seen the distribution of millions of acres of land to landless workers across Brazil.
Rosa del Carmen Curihuentro LLancaleo - a journalist and a Mapuche (the Indigenous Community of Chile and Argentina) who is heavily involved in the struggles against theft of their lands by trans-national corporations.
Chaz Doherty - a representative of the Tu Hoe Nation. Chaz is an activist as well as a negotiator between the Maori and the New Zealand government.
Heriberto Salas - is a represenative from 'the people for the Defence of the Earth' which has spearheaded the resistance against forced removal of the community to make way for a new airport in Mexico City. Recently this movement has engaged with 'the other campaign' initiated by the Zapatistas and been met by massive police repression and killings.
